The Real Reason You're Not Getting Clients (And What to Do About It)

You’ve got talent, but it feels like no one’s seeing it.

Been there. Done that.

Let’s talk about why you’re not getting clients and how to fix it.

1. Your offer isn’t clear.

When someone lands on your page, what exactly are they getting? If your viewers have to guess, you’ve already lost.

You’ve gotta do some handholding here. And I mean make it clear and obvious. Say it plain. Break it down like you're talking to somebody who’s half-listening while scrolling in the carpool line.

Don’t make them think critically to understand your offer. That’s not their job.

2. Your portfolio is too general.

No one cares that you “know Photoshop, Illustrator, Blender, Maya, and After Effects.”

They care whether you can make creative and strategic work. Tools be damned!

So don’t throw together a portfolio full of random class assignments or basic templates. Even if you don’t have real client work yet, finesse it.

And I mean it: FINESSE. IT.

Not lie. Not fake testimonials. Just don’t label the project as “client work” unless it actually was. Nobody cares. It just needs to look clean, smart, and professional.

Your portfolio should reflect the level of work you want to get paid for. Reread the previous sentence please.

3. You’re waiting instead of initiating.

This one hurts, but it’s the truth. You’re sitting back, hoping clients show up. Instead, you need to start asking.

Send a DM. Pitch via email. Consistently post about your offer.

The worst someone can say is “no.” And to be honest, you probably had no clients before you asked anyway. So… no love lost.

Set a goal: ask 5-10 people a day. That’s how business works. It’s not personal. It’s math. The more you ask, the more likely someone says yes.

And don’t just ask. Make your work easy to view.

Send a PDF. Drop your website. Link your Instagram page. No excuses.

Doing all of this will build your confidence sky high. Guaranteed.
